It started over coffee and deep-fried cassava. In a conversation among former colleagues who have known each other for over 20 years, we reflected on our time working together and the many journeys we had shared beyond the office and operating sites. We realized that what connected us was more than professional history.

It was trust, camaraderie, and a shared belief in learning honestly from experience. Over the years, we have gathered lessons from both success and failure. Some came from work we were proud of. Others came from difficult moments, wrong turns, and the occasional experience of falling flat on our faces. But each lesson shaped how we understood organizations, risk, people, and the importance of making better decisions before problems become costly mistakes.

Those experiences led to a simple question: what if we could make some of those hard-earned lessons useful to others? Organizations should not always have to discover the same problems independently, particularly when the consequences of getting things wrong can be significant. Yet experience is often difficult to transfer. People move on, institutional memory fades, and lessons learned in one organization rarely make their way to another.

As we reached out to other trusted colleagues with similar journeys, MRG grew into a collective of senior practitioners with complementary expertise, centered on holistic and integrated non-technical risk management.

Today, we work with and alongside the public sector, private sector, and wider civil society ecosystem to support a stronger investment climate in Indonesia, one that balances competitive business practices with sustainable and ethical conduct.
